"Windows of Heaven" 24" tall x 21" wide
A combination of realism and abstract art, this quilt also reflects on the veil between this life and the next, which sometimes seems so thin it's as if we're peering through windows into the great mystery beyond. We might experience this at times when we feel deep peace, or when we are supremely happy, or with the loss of a loved one. The dragonflies and calla lilies symbolize transformation, hope and peace.
Made with cotton, silk and other fabrics, some are hand-dyed or marbled. Almost all the flowers, foliage and leaves were appliquéd by hand, with trapunto to make the flowers stand out, and a little raw edge appliqué; the background is machine pieced. Machine quilted with cotton, trilobal polyester and metallic threads. Ink pencils were used to add shading.
